Recovery From Long COVID Is Possible

Despite what you’ve been told, recovery from Long COVID is possible.

It takes time, effort, and patience. But it can be done.

I know, because I have Long COVID. I understand what you’re going through.

My turning point came in September 2021 when I started the Safe and Sound Protocol—a non-invasive Autonomic Nervous System intervention (delivered via audio) designed to benefit the autonomic nervous system by building in more flexibility.

Finally, my body transitioned out of constant immobilization and started to heal.

Suddenly, I had more gratitude and connection to others, more energy, way less brain fog, and was finally able to start working full time again.

But Isn’t Long COVID a Physical Illness?

Yes, Long COVID is absolutely a physical illness.

  • Viral Persistence
  • Microclots
  • Leaky Gut
  • Autoimmunity (your immune system attacking itself)
  • Acid Based Disruption

Whichever theory of Long COVID you go with (and let’s be honest, it’s more than likely all of these mechanisms) one of the most commonly accepted mechanisms for what can exacerbate Long COVID involves the over-activation of the autonomic nervous system (ANS).

The acute viral trauma to the body (as well as possible viral persistence) causes the ANS to go into high alert, and so the body becomes stuck in fight-or-flight.

You might have heard people talk about the Vagus nerve or Polyvagal theory. This is what they are referring to.

Our bodies are not designed to be in fight-or-flight permanently. After a while, they begin to shut down due to overwhelm. And move into the third nervous system state—immobilization.

This state is characterized by:

  • Chronic fatigue
  • Slow or stopped digestion
  • Social withdrawal
  • Changes in tone of voice
  • Reduced facial expression
  • Tension and anxiety

You have been unable to heal and recover because you are constantly in fight-or-flight, immobilization, or bouncing between the two.

This leaves your body unable to move back into rest and digest.


The good news is—there are many ways to support the autonomic nervous system, improve vagal tone, and get out of permanent immobilization and fight-or-flight.

Each individual responds differently to different approaches depending on personality, history, and prior trauma.
